A Patient's Perspective on IgA Nephropathy
Jonathan S. Pollack
I was diagnosed in early 2025 with IgA nephropathy, a rare autoimmune kidney disease that often stays silent until there's already permanent damage. By the time I learned what was happening, significant scarring had already occurred, and I was told I might be only a few years away from dialysis or a transplant.
The landscape for IgA nephropathy has changed in the past few years. With targeted therapy and careful management, my kidney function stabilized and I reached clinical remission. The disease isn't gone, but the trajectory - and the prognosis - shifted.
I'm sharing my experience so patients and clinicians recognize how urgent this condition can be, how quickly it can progress, and how much the right treatment can alter the path. People deserve earlier answers, better options, and the chance to change their own story.
I recommend you start your journey by reading my story or learning about IgA nephropathy. If you are newly diagnosed, I recommend you look at the practical patient guide that I developed.
